The special prize, an olive wood sculpture created by artist Tonino Zurlo of the “L'olivo che canta” workshop, was awarded to Cosimo Barletta , a well-known and esteemed 91-year-old olive grower and the dean of Apulian olive growing, who operates in a large area including Monopoli, Fasano and Ostuni, “for having dedicated a lifetime to the protection, preservation and enhancement of monumental olive groves”.

they say about us
Olive growers for 5 generations, we have a secret that unites us, the irrepressible passion for our olive groves.
"I was honored, along with a group of young farmers, to recognize this young man who has dedicated and continues to dedicate his life to agriculture. I may be biased, given that he is my father's older brother, and after losing his father at a young age, he took on the responsibility of raising and guiding his other six siblings on the path of work and legality. But today I want to talk about something else. Every morning he wakes up before 5 a.m. and wanders around all his land, which extends between Ostuni, Fasano, and Monopoli, to check that the work is done properly. Who knows if one day I'll be able to create a third of what he has achieved. But I've finally managed to discover his secret... his soul is nourished by an irrepressible passion, the love for his olive groves."

THEY SAY ABOUT US...
Cosimo, now in his nineties, is the inspiration behind the large Barletta family, who cultivate centuries-old olive trees between Ostuni, Fasano, and Monopoli. The red soil, dry stone walls, trulli, and sea characterize this part of Puglia, which the company expresses in its oil.
